2015 26.5 Mile Sprint Recap

26.5 Mile Sprint

On a gorgeous day in late September over 25 riders lined up to ride one lap on The Texas Time Trials course.  After everyone finished 5 new course records were set and goals were achieved.

The top 4 Solo Male Upright Sprint racers finished within less than two minutes.  Three time TTT’er Joe Escano sprinted to the finish line in 1 hour 13 minutes, then Chad Kelley came whizzing by in 2nd Place, followed closely by 3rd Place Kevin Cozine and 4th Place Cezar Sandu.  What a close race!

Male Sprint podium
Seven minutes after the first rider crossed the finish line, Ty Ternet completed his lap and earned 5th Place.  Race Across America 2015 Finisher, Jose Bermudez, finished 6th after crewing all weekend for another rider since he had recent hand surgery.  Nine-time TTT’er and volunteer Pat Nolan crossed the finish line at 7th overall in the Solo Male Upright category and 1st Place in his 55-59 age group.  Finishing out the top ten solo males were Thomas Jennings (2nd Place 45-49), Rex Madsen (1st Place 60-64) and John Peters (2nd Place 60-64).

Solo Male 4-9

Solo Male Recumbent rider Alan Johnson from Phoenix came in 1st and Ray Davis finished 2nd.

Bent Sprint Winners

In crazy fashion, seven time TTT’er Vickie Tyer rode an Elliptigo Bicycle on her lap and set a new course record doing so.  Jodi Ryan, who won her entry in a FWBA drawing, rode her trike around the course accomplishing this tough personal goal while overcoming her MS symptoms to set a new course record.  Mixed Tandem team members Stephen Hazelton (6 time TTT’er) and Sharon Stevens (TTT Hall of Fame Inductee) rode to a new course record.  Also setting a new course record are husband and wife team Michele and Jim Willis with a better time in the 2-Person Mixed Upright Team category.
