2016 Texas Ultra Cup
For 2016, 31 solo and 7 team Texas Ultra Cup Trophies were earned. In the Open Category alone the solo participants earned almost 15,000 miles with eight riders totaling over 1,000 each. Now, that’s a bunch of miles! The Overall Solo Male Open award was earned by David Baxter from Austin, Texas with 1870.24 earned miles followed very closely by Thomas “Wheels” Busch from Del Rio, Texas who earned 1833.42 miles after participating in all six events. The 1st Place Solo Male Recumbent award winner was Alan Johnson from Phoenix, AZ who traveled to Texas 4 times to participate in The Texas Ultra Cup. The 2015 and 2016 Tejas 500 Solo Male winner, Andrew Willis, earned 2nd Place Solo Male in the Open Division. Rounding out the top seven riders with over 1,000 miles each are Julio Salazar (Friendswood, TX), John Evans (Plano, TX), and Rusty Yeager (Evansville, IN). Open Class Solo Male awards were also earned by Brian Alger, Quintin Boehmisch, Mike Healy and Richard Fox.
Amy Russell, from Robinson Texas, participated in 5 out of 6 events riding 1548.35 miles earning The Overall Solo Female Open Division Champion. First and Second Place Solo Female Upright awards were handed out to Kim Gama from Fort Worth, TX and Rhonda Green from Benbrook, TX. Team OEB members John Carter from Monahans, TX and Odis Franklin from Coahoma, TX earned the Open Division Overall 2-Person Male Team Champion award.
24 HOUR CATEGORY
For the 24-Hour, 12-Hour and 6-Hour Divisions only the riders top three events are considered when calculating total mile. Mary Hall from Dallas Texas rode 971.79 miles, the most in the solo 24-Hour Category earning her The Overall Solo Female Champion title. The Overall 24-Hour Solo Male Champion, Richard Nicholson, from Hutto Texas rode 936.10 miles followed by Barry Benson (Ellicott City, Maryland) with 879.39 miles, Albert Cendrero with 819.20 miles, Scott Anderson (Odessa, Texas) and David Shortes(Odessa, Texas) with 560 miles.Two teams earned 24-Hour Overall Champion Texas Ultra Cup trophies including One Hour Racing teammates Lisa Anderson and Larry Eads both from Odessa, Texas for the 2-Person Mixed Category with 1041.50 miles. The Chain Reaction Team earned The Overall Champion 4-Person Mixed Category with team members Lisa Bick, Tom Bick, Quintin Boehmisch, Russ Trobaugh, Amy Russell, David Oviatt and Sharon Stevens after riding 1255.10 miles.
Joe Sitterly, from Universal City, Texas finished his 2016 Texas Ultra Cup run with an Overall Solo Male 12-Hour win with 603.52 miles, followed very closely by Doug Randel (Big Spring, TX) with 594.18 miles and David Kiser (Seabrook, TX) with 581.15 miles. Also finishing with Overall Solo Male 12-Hour trophies were Thomas Niccum (Jersey City, NJ), Armand Zantman (The Woodlands, TX), Mark Lane (Lewisville, TX) and Robert Simonette. Stephanie Page from Houston earned the top spot for the Solo Female 12-Hour Division.
Four Teams finished with at least 3 races to earn a Texas Ultra Cup Award. Ron Harvot and Ron Singleton both from Flower Mound, Texas make up The Texas Flyers/Team Ron and earned the Overall Champion for the 2-Person Male 12-Hour Division with 550 miles. Red’s Racing’s Carol Ambuhl and Martin Hukle both from Houston completed 421 miles to earn the 12-Hour 2-Person Mixed Overall Champion Trophy. Handlebar Harlots made up of Allison Jones (Benbrook, TX) with teammates Cynthia Caruthers (Arlington, TX), Elaina Rowe (Cresson, TX) or Rhonda Green (Benbrook) received the Overall Champion in the 12-Hour 2-Person Female category. The Chain Grinders earned 12-Hour Overall Champion 4-Person Mixed Team after team members Sam Kersey, Jane Lee, Marlena Nel, Stephen Williams and Todd Barta participated in three TUC events riding 479 miles. 6-HOUR CATEGORY
Dan Plutto from The Woodlands, rode 291 miles to earn the Overall Champion 6-Hour Solo Male trophy followed closely by Roger Heard, from Cibolo, Texas who rode 280 miles. Linda Randel from Big Spring, Texas received the Overall Solo Female 6-Hour Award.
