Tin-Butt 12 Hour Challenge
The 75 degree early morning start on Saturday for the 12-Hour Challenge was a nice start. The day got warmer, but with 32 total riders there were many miles racked up for this event. Thank you to Mother Nature for holding off the thunderstorms that past just to the east of Glen Rose. Three new course records were set for the Tin Butt 12-Hour.
Jon Isom from Austin Texas rode 231.88 miles, received the First Place Solo Male trophy, and topped the previous course record by almost 20 miles. Local rider Jonathon Pike pulled in at Second Place with 212 miles. Richard Wharton, owner of Dallas Cycling Center, finished in third place with 185.5 miles. In 4th place was Mike Healy, who also placed in The Texas Ultra Cup Open Division. Riding in behind the top four were Texas Ultra Cup participants Joseph Sitterly, David Kiser and Armand Zantman. Finishing out the rest of the 12-Hour Solo Male category are Kenneth Spence, Doug Randel, Thomas Niccum, Robert Baldino, Jeremy Davis, Martin Keller, Ed Melton and Mark Lane. David Towns from Lady Lake, Florida achieved the First Place Solo Male Recumbent award after his sixth time competing at TTTT.
From Fort Smith Arkansas, Suzanne Clayton, won First Place Solo Female with 159 miles. Riding in at 2nd and 3rd are Meta Minton a 6th year participant from Lady Lake Florida and Shannon Jordan from Groves, Texas.
Two 2-Person Male Upright Teams rode in the 12-Hour event, with “Team OEB” with John Carter and Odis Franklin finishing in 1st and “Team Ron-Texas Flyers” with Ron Harvot and Ron Singleton finishing in 2nd Place. Allison Jones and Rhonda Green earned the 1st Place 2-Person Upright Team riding as the “Handlebar Harlots”. Coming in with a new 3-Female Upright Team course record are Shannon Dailey, Leslie Haas and Sara Underwood as team “Pink Panther/CorioVelo” who rode 185.5 miles. The “Chain Grinders” teammates Todd Barta, Sam Kersey, Jane Lee and Marlena Nel also set a new course record in the 4-Person Mixed Upright team category by riding 173.91 miles.
